Post occurrence inspection

One of the functions of the CRR is to investigate railway accidents and incidents for the purposes of determining the compliance of railway organisations with their safety management systems (SMS) and safety targets. This is done through post occurrence inspections. The CRR do not investigate accidents and incidents for cause, this is the responsibility of the Railway Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport.
